children help their parents make decisions about energy savings.
From recycling to turning off those light switches, kids have their say in helping us become better energy stewards. The only good thing about rising gas prices is that we are finally more aware of our environment. How many of our children could identify just 5 plant or bird species? Why is that? On the other hand: How many characters of their favorite video games or TV shows are they able to recite by heart?
Studies show that more and more families will take a 'local' vacation this summer rather than the usual tour de States. With gas prices on the rise, a bike trip to the local park or a swim at a neighborhood pool sounds like a great alternative. Families might actually spend more quality time because creating your own energy like biking or hiking can be a lot of fun too. No hidden energy costs involved.
As much as we want to shelter our children from the burdens of greenhouse gas emmissions and their 'adult problems' we have the responsibility to go back to nature and realize that WE are part of the environment too. What we drive does matter. How we live, does also matter. What example are we setting if we throw that watter bottle in the trash rather than recycle it. How much do you think, climate issues will affect our children and their children? Talk to your kids about the choices they have. And then teach them that every choice has consequences.
